Sardinian music
Sardinian music is probably one of the most distinctive features of the island's culture. The main genres are the cantu a tenore, a polyphonic song typical of Barbagia; the cantu a chiterra, a monodic song that is accompanied by the guitar, widespread mainly in the north and centre of the island; and the music of the launeddas, a reed wind instrument consisting of three reeds that are played simultaneously using the circular breathing technique. In addition, there are numerous sacred songs such as the gosos, spread throughout the island.
